The MEXSAS2 Sample and the Ensemble X-ray Variability of Quasars

چکیده
We present the second Multi-Epoch X-ray Serendipitous AGN Sample (MEXSAS2), extracted from the 6th release of the XMM Serendipitous Source Catalog (XMMSSCDR6), cross-matched with Sloan Digital Sky Survey quasar catalogs DR7Q and DR12Q. Our sample also includes the available measurements for masses, bolometric luminosities, and Eddington ratios. Analyses of the ensemble structure function and spectral variability are presented, together with their dependences on such parameters. We confirm a decrease of the structure function with the X-ray luminosity, and find a weak dependence on the black hole mass. We introduce a new spectral variability estimator, taking errors on both fluxes and spectral indices into account. We confirm an ensemble softer when brighter trend, with no dependence of such estimator on black hole mass, Eddington ratio, redshift, X-ray and bolometric luminosity.

A Study of Qso Evolution in the X-ray Band with the Aid of Gravitational Lensing
We present results from a mini-survey of relatively high redshift (1.7 < z < 4) gravitationally lensed radio-quiet quasars observed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory and with XMM-Newton. The lensing magnification effect allows us to search for changes in quasar spectroscopic and flux variability properties with redshift over three orders of magnitude in intrinsic X-ray luminosity. It extends t...
متن کاملChandra Observations of Nuclear X-ray Emission from a Sample of Radio Sources
We present the X-ray properties of a sample of 17 radio sources observed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory as part of a project aimed at studying the X-ray emission from their radio jets. In this paper, we concentrate on the X-ray properties of the unresolved cores. The sample includes 16 quasars (11 core-dominated and 5 lobe-dominated) in the redshift range z=0.30–1.96, and one low-power radi...
متن کاملQuasar Optical Variability in the Palomar-QUEST Survey
The ensemble variability properties of nearly 23,000 quasars are studied using the PalomarQUEST Survey. The survey has covered 15,000 square degrees multiple times over 3.5 years using 7 optical filters, and has been calibrated specifically for variability work. Palomar-QUEST allows for the study of rare objects using multiple epochs of consistently calibrated, homogeneous data, obviating the c...
متن کاملOn the origin of radio emission in radio quiet quasars
The radio emission in radio loud quasars originates in a jet carrying relativistic electrons. In radio quiet quasars (RQQs) the relative radio emission is ∼ 10 times weaker, and its origin is not established yet. We show here that there is a strong correlation between the radio luminosity (LR) and X-ray luminosity (LX) with LR ∼ 10 −5LX , for the radio quiet Palomar-Green (PG) quasar sample. Th...
متن کاملX-ray Observations of Gravitationally Lensed Quasars; Evidence for a Hidden Quasar Population
X-ray observations are presented of gravitationally lensed quasars with redshifts ranging between 1 and 4. The large magnification factors of gravitationally lensed (GL) systems allow us to investigate the properties of quasars with X-ray luminosities that are substantially lower than those of unlensed ones and also provide an independent means of estimating the contribution of faint quasars to...
